Peste Des Petits Ruminants (PPR) is an acute, highly contagious, fatal viral disease of small ruminants (Sheep and Goats). The disease is caused by a mobillivirus in the family Paramyxoviridae. Clinically, the disease is characterised by pyrexia (fever), erosive stomatitis, conjunctivitis, gastroenteritis and bronchopneumonia. Alimentary tract involvement is marked by the development of severe diarrhoea. Since there is no specific treatment for PPR, the disease can be controlled by carrying out preventive measures through vaccination of sheep and goats.
